Born in Freeport, Long Island, New York, Mr. Hohorst grew up in Prattsburgh, New York. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963, he served 13 years as a Photographer in various sea and shore billets including: NAAS Meridian, MS; USS Cadmus AR-14; USS Wasp CVS-18; USS Intrepid CVS-11; VS-31; and repeat tours at the Naval Schools of Photography, Pensacola, FL. In 1977, he was commissioned a Photographic Limited Duty Officer.
As a Photo Officer, Mr. Hohorst served in a variety of reconnaissance, training, and combat camera billets including: RVAH-7, Key West, FL; OIC Fleet Audiovisual Center and Combat Camera Group Det., Cubi Point, Philippines; repeat tours as Director of Training, Naval Schools of Photography, NAS Pensacola; and Director, Manpower and Training, OP09B1, Washington, DC. During his final tours, he served as Commanding Officer of the Atlantic Fleet Imaging Command and Combat Camera Group, Norfolk, VA; Deputy Commander of the Naval Imaging Command, Washington, DC; and as Chief, Plans and Operations for Visual Information, in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense. Retiring in July 1995, after a 32-year Navy career, Commander Hohorst moved to Milton, FL.
During retirement, Mr. Hohorst became active in various organizations, especially the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce. He served as its President in 2004 and was a former Executive Director. He was active with Santa Rosa County Emergency Management and served as President of SRC Search and Rescue. Mr. Hohorst has served on the Boards of Directors for the Santa Rosa County Chamber, Milton Mural Society, Main Street Milton, Santa Rosa County Planning and Zoning Board, and Workforce EscaRosa, Inc. He chaired the Milton Christmas Parade, the Blackwater River Festival, and the North Santa Rosa County Government Affairs Committees. Mr. Hohorst also served on various other Committees including the two-county Military Regional Oversight Committee (MROC), Chamber Tourism Committee and the North Santa Rosa County Tourism Marketing Committee
Selected to Who’s Who in U.S. Executives, he was selected the SRC Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 2006. Mr. Hohorst was President of Barron Consulting, a small business providing grant writing and administration services in support of economic development, organizational development, and military base retention.
Mr. Hohorst possesses a BS in Business Administration, an MS in Management, and an MPA in Administrative Organization and Management.
